HEALTH TIPS TO REMEMBER
Laughter is the Best Medicine3 Beauty Tips To Look Young And Fresh
  • Stay hydrated and do it with plenty of water! This does not mean soda, caffeine or any other liquid, even low-calories liquid. Soda has a high concentration of sodium. Sodium retains fluids. You need liquid to hydrate and flush your body free of toxins. Make sure you drink at least 8 glasses a day!
  • Protect your skin against harmful ultra violet (UV). We all love the sun. We love being here and we love having a nice tan. The truth is that it can poison the sun. UV rays cause skin cancer and if it is not serious enough to make your skin age faster than it should, contributing to unsightly wrinkles. If you have to play in the sun, make sure you use a sunscreen. Do not leave home without it

  • Eat healthy. How and what to eat, make a big difference in how you feel. Poor nutrition can cause depression, weight gain, illness and lethargy.

Body Piercing - "Why & Why Not?"

Dr. Wesam Kadhum
Lecturer -Dermatology Dept
GMC Hospital, Ajman

Introduction
Creativity and ubiquity are the only constants of body piercing. Yet, no matter what one's opinion is about body piercings, don't become distracted by them and delay important medical care. Body piercing has been around for centuries in various societies as part of ritualistic or cultural practices, and now it is rapidly becoming a worldwide mainstream fashion trend, especially among young adults aged 18-25 years, body piercing is defined as the insertion of a needle to create a fistula-like opening (into either cartilage or skin) for the introduction of decorative ornaments, which can include insertion of jewelry, plastic or wood plugs, beads, or pearls. Women tend to report obtaining body piercings more so than men do.

Body Piercing Regulated Environment
An actual body piercing procedure only takes a few moments, but given the invasive technique of the procedure, an earlier study cited frequent infections and skin irritations as prevalent piercing site problems, often because no aftercare instructions for proper skin treatment were provided. Now, considering the overall amount of body piercing worldwide and the presence of a better (but certainly not perfect) regulated body art environment, While most body piercings are not problematic, the potential for localized infections, as well as associated systemic diseases, is present so long as the piercing site remains open. These infections may become an even more invasive problem with the emergence of community acquired methicillin resistant Stapthylococcus aureus (CA-MRSA).

Blood transfusions have also been affected by the increase in body piercing. For many years, individuals with new piercing could not donate blood for at least 1 year following the piercing, if body art was obtained in regulated areas. Current evidence indicates disease transmission has not increased with these new regulations.

TOO MUCH HAIR ON FACE AND BODY?

Dr. Mathew Thomas M
M.D. (Derm), Dip. In Aesthetic Medicine (Board Certified)
Specialist Dermatology
G.M.C. Hospital, Fujairah.

A few days ago a middle aged married woman, walked into my clinic with complaints of slowly progressive hair growth on her face and legs. I could see the anguish and shame on her face, when she said that she shaved her upper lip weekly and waxed her legs and arms monthly. With tears in her eyes, she confessed that she is losing self confidence and self esteem, which badly affects her family life and profession.

This is not an isolated story. About 5 % of women of reproductive age in the general population face the problem of excessive hair growth on their body.

Having too much hair on the face and body can be highly embarrassing and cause great distress especially for women. Hirsutism or too much body and facial hair in women may be hereditary, ethnical or part of underlying medical/hormonal problem or without any obvious reason. Your doctor will be the best person to analyse the cause.

Shaving, bleaching, plucking, waxing, threading, sugaring with lemon and application of depilatories will remove hair temporarily, but can cause irritation and allergy. Electrolysis permanently removes hair, but has become very unpopular now due to its irreversible adverse effects.
