The Health Benefits of Humor and Laughter

Did you know, laughing heartily 100 times a day gives the same cardio results as working out for 10 minutes

Laughter is good for your health

  • Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
  • Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
  • Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
  • Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
FRESH FRUIT CHOCOLATE FONDUE

FRESH FRUIT CHOCOLATE FONDUEUse a selection of fruits, peeled and cut into cubes if large. Try mango, pineapple, whole strawberries, juicy pears, strawberries or banana chunks. The healthiest chocolate choice is any brand of dark chocolate with a high content of cocoa solids. The cheaper brands are very high in fat and sugar, and don’t taste nearly as good.

Chocolate Fondue Ingredients
200g/1.5 cups dark chocolate
50/0.25 cup organic butter
75ml/one-third cup water

Method
Break chocolate into pieces, and place in a heatproof bowl with the butter, water and rum. Place over a saucepan of gently simmering water, so that the base of the bowl is clear of the water. Leave for 5-10 minutes, stirring now and then, until the chocolate has melted.

  • Stir to make a smooth sauce, remove from the heat and pour into the serving bowl.
  • Arrange the fruit on a platter with forks or cocktail sticks. Serve a small bowl of chopped nuts alongside if you wish. To eat, simply dip pieces of fruit into chocolate, then into nuts.
